Young mom Tierra faces a series of unexplained events after an accident that leaves her with a concussion. Recovering at home, she begins to question her sanity as she watches her three-month-old son Steven suddenly start crawling and “hears” conversations that seem impossible. “Today While Resting” is a scripted short film about parenthood, postpartum difficulties, and the importance of partner support in times of crisis.
“Today While Resting” is a family story in a humorous genre. The author follows the laws of comedy and uses it as a prism, revealing the dramatic problematics of the issue. The general logic of the script structure is followed: the author does an excellent job with the entrance to the narrative, and the described trauma event triggers the plot in which the main action unfolds. It would seem that the presented work is perfectly executed, however, some irregularities could be seen.
For example, it would be necessary to balance the dramaturgical ratio of the introductory and the main part of the script, where the accident and its consequences are the result of a fall due to the cat's behavior. Undoubtedly, the comic fall is at the heart of this work, but the type of montage proposed by the author during the scenes of the heroine's “enlightenment” requires more serious motivation at the level of predevelopment. Also, the figure of the doorman, used by the author either to complicate the construction or to dramaturgically mark the plot, raises questions. It is probably worth specifying his tasks at the level of the script or later specifying the doorman at the level of the overall visual structure
Despite these nuances, the script has great potential. The overall structure is strong, the main dramaturgical move stands on its own and, most importantly, is appropriate stylistically. Let's wait for the screen adaptation and hope that the authors will be able to present to the world a vivid statement on this difficult, but extremely important topic.
